Free tool

Excel to HTML table.

Drop an .xlsx, .xls or .ods workbook, pick a sheet — or all of them — and get a clean HTML table with the numbers formatted the way Excel shows them. No saving as CSV first, no upload. Copy the markup, download a page, or turn the sheet into a link anyone can open on any device and comment on, row by row.

pasted range
4 rows × 11 columns

Publishes the sheet to Comma: one URL instead of an .xlsx attachment, readable on a phone with no Excel installed, private or open to anyone with the link — and readers comment on the exact row. Free, no card.

What the converter keeps

  • Displayed values, not raw ones — $1,204,900, 31% and 3/14/26 rather than 1204900, 0.31 and a date serial like 46095.
  • Every sheet in the workbook, individually or together on one page with a heading per sheet.
  • The real used range — trailing blank rows and the empty columns Excel likes to count are dropped.
  • Escaped cells — a value containing markup or a formula string shows up as text, never as something that runs.
  • Markdown output too, if the table is headed for a README, a pull request or a ticket.

Why send a link instead of the .xlsx

A workbook attached to an email is a file half the recipients open on a phone, where it renders badly or not at all, and the other half open in different versions of Excel, Numbers or Sheets. The feedback then comes back as “row 14 looks off” in a reply thread, detached from row 14. Published as a report, the sheet is one URL that looks the same everywhere, comments sit on the row they are about, and re-publishing keeps the previous version as a revision. If the numbers refresh weekly, a routine can post the new table to the same link.

Questions

How do I convert an Excel spreadsheet to an HTML table?
Drop the .xlsx file onto this page (or click “Open workbook”), pick a sheet, and the HTML table is generated straight away. Copy the markup, download a standalone .html page, or publish it as a shareable link. Nothing installs and nothing uploads.
Which file types work?
Excel .xlsx, .xlsm, .xlsb and legacy .xls, LibreOffice/OpenOffice .ods, and plain .csv or .tsv. Files up to 30 MB are read in your browser.
Do numbers keep their Excel formatting?
Yes. Each cell is converted using the text Excel would display — so currency symbols, thousands separators, percentages and date formats come through as they look in the sheet, not as raw serial numbers. Numeric columns are right-aligned with tabular figures.
What about formulas?
You get the last calculated value that was saved in the file, which is what Excel shows. The formula itself is not included in the table. A file written by a script that never stored calculated values will show those cells empty — open and re-save it in Excel to fill them.
Can I convert every sheet at once?
Yes. Turn on “All sheets” and the output becomes one HTML page with a heading and a table per sheet — useful when the workbook is the report and you want one link for all of it.
Can I just paste a range instead of opening the file?
Yes. Copy cells in Excel, Google Sheets or Numbers and paste them into the editor — the clipboard holds tab-separated values, which are converted the same way.
What happens to merged cells, colours and charts?
Merged cells are unmerged: the value stays in the first cell of the merge and the rest are blank. Cell colours, conditional formatting and charts are not carried over — the output is a clean, consistently styled table. If the formatting is the point, export the sheet to HTML or PDF from Excel and use the HTML viewer instead.
Is my spreadsheet uploaded anywhere?
No. The workbook is parsed in your browser and the preview renders in a sandboxed iframe on this page. The data only leaves your machine if you click “Get a shareable link” and create a report.
How do I share a spreadsheet without emailing the file?
Click “Get a shareable link”. The table is published to Comma as a report: one URL that opens in any browser, on a phone too, with no Excel needed. Readers can comment on a specific row, and re-publishing keeps the previous version as a revision. Comma is free.
