# Marker.io alternatives for website feedback

Marker.io is a good tool with a clear model: put a widget on a site you
host, let clients and testers report what they see, and turn every report
into a ticket — screenshot, browser, console log and all — in Jira,
Linear, Trello or wherever your team works. If that's your process, it's
hard to beat.

People go looking for an alternative when the process has changed. The
site came out of v0 or Lovable this morning and isn't hosted anywhere yet.
Nobody wants a ticket per comment on a two-day review. Or the one doing
the fixing is Claude Code, and it needs to know _which element on which
page_, not a screenshot to squint at.

Below is an honest map of the alternatives, grouped by the job they're
best at.

## Quick comparison

| Tool | How it attaches to the site | Best for | Hosts the build? |
| ----------------------- | ------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------- | ---------------- |
| Marker.io | Script or browser extension | Bug reports into a tracker | No |
| BugHerd | Script or browser extension | Pinned feedback on a built-in task board | No |
| Userback | Script | Feedback, screen recordings, surveys | No |
| Pastel | Paste a URL into its viewer | Quick client review with no install | No |
| Markup.io | Paste a URL (also images, PDFs) | Mixed-asset design review | No |
| Vercel preview comments | Toolbar on Vercel previews | Teams already deploying on Vercel | Your Vercel |
| **Comma Websites** | Upload the built site | Feedback an AI coding agent resolves | **Yes** |

Feature sets change often; check each vendor's site for current details
and pricing.

## If a person triages feedback into tickets

**BugHerd** is the closest like-for-like swap. Reviewers pin a comment to
an element, BugHerd captures the browser and the selector, and each pin
lands on a kanban board inside BugHerd (with integrations out to the usual
trackers). Teams that don't want _another_ tracker sometimes find the
built-in board is the point.

**Userback** covers similar ground and leans further into product
feedback — screen recordings, feature requests, in-app surveys — for teams
collecting feedback from end users as well as reviewers.

Both, like Marker.io, assume the site is already hosted somewhere you can
add a script to.

## If you want zero install

**Pastel** and **Markup.io** load your URL inside their own reviewer, so
clients comment without you touching the code. That's the right trade for
agency-style "please look at the homepage" reviews. The catch is the one
every proxy-based tool shares: some sites refuse to be framed, and logged-in
or heavily scripted pages don't always behave inside someone else's
viewer. Markup.io also handles images, PDFs and videos in the same
workspace, useful when the review spans more than the site.

## If you're already on Vercel

Vercel's **preview comments** put a toolbar on every preview deployment,
tied to the branch and the pull request. If your team deploys every branch
to Vercel anyway, it's the least new software you can adopt. It's less of
a fit when the reviewer is outside your Vercel team or the site isn't a
Vercel project.

## If an AI coding agent does the fixing

This is the gap [Comma's Websites feature](/website-feedback) is built
for. You upload the built site — a zip with `index.html` at the root, or a
project with a `dist/`, `build/` or `out/` folder — and Comma hosts it on
its own isolated preview deployment. Reviewers select any text on any page
and comment on it. Each comment keeps:

- the **page path** it was left on,
- a **selector** for the element,
- the **deployment** — the exact build — it was left against.

Then the loop closes without a ticket in between. Through Comma's
[MCP server](/mcp), Claude Code, Cursor or any MCP client calls
`list_website_comments`, edits the code, and calls
`set_website_comment_status` to resolve each comment it fixed. You upload
the next build; reviewers see their threads resolved.

It's free, and it sits in the same workspace as your
[HTML reports](/comment-on-html), so a test report, an AI-generated
analysis and the site under review all share one comment model.

### Where Comma is the wrong choice

Be clear-eyed about the limits before switching:

- **No widget for an existing production site.** You can link an external
URL and keep page-level comments beside it, but in-page highlights only
  work on builds Comma serves.
- **Reviewers sign in.** Marker.io and BugHerd take guest reports. For a
no-account review of one screen, share it as a
  [Comma report](/comment-on-html) instead.
- **No screenshots, console logs or session replay.** Comma records where
a comment is, not the reviewer's browser state. If QA bug reports are
the job, Marker.io is better at it.
- **Text uploads only, for now.** Images and fonts in the build should use
  absolute URLs.
- **Previews expire.** Deployments are for review, not production hosting.

## How to choose

- **Feedback becomes tickets, a person triages:** stay on Marker.io, or
  try BugHerd or Userback.
- **Clients review a live URL, nothing to install:** Pastel or Markup.io.
- **Everything already deploys to Vercel:** start with preview comments.
- **The build isn't hosted yet, and an agent writes the fixes:**
  [upload it to Comma](https://commareports.com/websites).
